It’s by no means a perfect approach to disabling or countering the S-400 by air power but it’s probably the safest option outside of non stealthy wave of SEAD planes rushing in and loosing maybe a 4th of their flight in one go in exchange for one S-400 platform. The best way to “safely” take out anti air weapons is to

    We’re not all perfect ;)

A valid point. I was more looking to near future, (Russia is no way economically ready to fight us now), hence the LRSB being on the list, but yes, as of now only the F-22 and B-2 are our only stealthy platforms in service

Not every language has the exact term for “marine” so they will title they’re marine divisions as naval infantry (Russia is one example)

I know the 160th special operations aviation regiment (SOAR) does. I wouldn’t put it past marine, AF, and navy rotary wing training to do the same

Touchee. And I do not know nearly enough to properly answer your question, but assuming that they are first detect at 60ish nmi going maybe 700 mph, that gives them roughly 2-5 minutes to get a shot at them all the while the S-400 needs to track and confirm their target in the same time if they want to get a shot off

Anyone who buys or developed they’re own domestic 5th gen aircraft. Or better yet, anyone who knows where it is and hit it with artillery, or behind the lines raids, (like a scud hunt for example)

Except the S-400 is radar based and there are several types of aircraft in our current inventory as well as upcoming that drastically reduce the spotting chance from radar and can perform air to ground missions as well as SEAD and HARM missions. (F-22, F-35, B-2, and the upcoming LRSB) this will also be able to cover

    YOU BASTARD!!!!!!!!

Amen friend, any chance you work Boeing, Lockheed, Northrup, or any of the rest?

A fair assessment. At least the b1 is a lot better than redesigning an entirely different plane or worse trying to convert a civilian plane to a military one (cough cough KC 46)

    Edit B not baird

Despite the same flight/hour costs between 1 b1 and 10 mq9 there are other costs and limitations that go into the AF’s choice of the b1.

So an AC 130 or similar gunship, or even better the ghost Rider models comming out now which will have glide bombs, hellfires, and spike missiles along side the 40 mm and even 105mm all operating from low to medium altitude with strait wing turbo prop reliance and endurance

“yet we don’t have a single platform designed exclusively to fight them”

Only if you accept the inevitably of US airmen being shot down from MPADS and other close in air defence weapons, hence the b1’s loitering at medium altitude as the article addresses

Yes and no. We are not going to have an amphibious assault like D-Day where we directly and deliberately take on a hardened defence. More likely the Marines would some where they could get off of the beach head before making contact, (so as not to repeat the high losses of D-Day). If they were to assault and shore

For one this is the first time Russia has attack ISIS. Before it had been bombing area’s under control from the Free Syrian Army and Syrian Kurdish positions. There are plenty of articles and videos on Foxtrot Alpha and other defense related sights that show the targets of Assad’s and Putin’s bombs are rarely ISIS.

I believe you are right. Every women who meets the quota and wants to should have the right to serve in the infantry. Yes it will be hard and of course there will be bad people who will raise he’ll because of it, but the vast majority of our service members, (like your self), are nothing but professional. It will be
