The “composite” headlamps vs sealed beams always felt backward to me. The prescribed sealed beams seem rather communist and the freedom of individual styling and capitalistic nature of proprietary headlamps very American.
I don’t think this was so much a headlamp height legal in Japan but not in US solution, but rather a way to have flash to pass function without the headlamps popping up each time or the headlamp windows found on some Japanese cars of the era like the FC rx7

Some good points but aren’t interstates required to have gas stations every 50 miles unless there’s a warning sign? I can see this being extended to EVs too meaning their could be charging stations every ~100 miles with a restaurant or attraction. but with modern GPS the car should be able to make planned charging…
