Doubt they are registering them. Getting title? Yes. AS far as I’m aware, no state requires you to register a vehicle unless it will be used on public roads. Title/ownership is separate from that.

I live in Charlotte, NC and taking a plane to D.C., or Atlanta is too much trouble for the short flight and the time at the airport. Shit, I’d take high speed rail all the way to NYC if it was available.

While there are some guys in our 4x4 club here in NC that plunk down the 40k for a Rubicon and then another $15k + in lifts and other mods... THey are the rare duck that actually do that and rock crawl with their Jeeps as well potentially daily drive them. Capable machines that can crawl with the best of us and do so…
