Well considering I’m 28, for the first 12 of those years I didn’t even exist ;)

Growing up in the US, I always thought (and was repeatedly told) that it was the greatest country on earth, but in the past few years that’s worn off a lot. Covid was just the final nail in the coffin for me... it just showed me how selfish and shortsighted we are as a country (particularly the politicians). Putting

All the cool old BMW’s are going up in price like crazy and it sucks. I don’t want my car to go up in value, I want to be able to afford to buy old BMW’s. Seems like old BMW’s are going the way that air-cooled 911's went, to where it becomes almost exclusively a rich man’s game. Sometimes I wish that rich people in

My solution is the opposite... I run the crappiest incandescent bulbs that I can in my car. If you try really hard you can see my plate, but it’s not easy. And I still technically have “working” plate bulbs so I’m not really breaking any laws. I know that does nothing against cameras with flashes, but it hides my

I don’t think driving an older car is a bad idea at all... just go through them before you put them into daily driver duty. Take care of any safety-related things like the brake pads + rotors, brake lines, suspension, fuel lines, etc. Make sure that you can take evasive maneuvers without putting the car in a ditch,

I feel you on being burnt-out from cars... I had like 10 old BMW’s at one point in some state of repair, and one by one I sold or scrapped them. My obsession with buying every old BMW I saw led me down a path of debt and didn’t really make me all that happy in retrospect. If anything, I’m a lot happier now that I’m

I guess that begs the question of “why are cop cars idling so much?” That seems to be a uniquely American issue, because the cops here are sent out to basically find trouble or “patrol” aka fulfill quotas. Why not just have police respond to actual problems instead of sitting around idling all day?

I agree with this wholeheartedly. If you look at police forces in other countries, they all use smaller, practical vehicles that are clearly marked and not designed to be intimidating. Meanwhile, here in the US you’ve got these blacked-out SUV’s with barely visible markings on them to sneak up on people, because it’s

Well good thing I never returned my Harbor Freight jack stands originally. I still use em plenty, along with every other tool in my shop that’s from Harbor Freight.

E32 is a breeze, relatively speaking. The E38 adds more emissions equipment just to make everything more challenging, and there’s not much more room either.

The early 4.2/4.4 Jag Rovers are pretty decent as well. They really started to run into trouble when they switched to the 5L engine.

What year 750il? I recently did intake manifold gaskets, spark plugs, distributors, and PCV’s on a 1999 750il. It really wasn’t bad to work on.

I mean, both of my Range Rovers were better than that. They both had fully functioning air suspension, good running engines, good transmissions, excellent AC, etc. So they didn’t just do the bare minimum of running and driving. My “secret,” if you can call it that, is to buy the 2003-2005 Range Rovers with the BMW

I’ve owned two Range Rovers and I was fine. Never got stranded, even with plenty of abuse and off-roading. Clueless people buy them and neglect them, and that’s what leads to the bad reputation.

Meh, it’s not that bad. I’ve done spark plugs on one of those in like an hour. Talk to me when you work on an N74 turbo V12 or an N63 turbo V8, those engines are the true definition of masochism!

I wonder if there’s some Pentastar DNA in that...

I like his bit at the end about being an Iranian immigrant, as if that somehow excuses him from being called a racist. News flash, anybody of any skin color can be racist. And even if he truly isn’t one, those posts were incredibly insensitive and poorly timed— have some common sense before you post!

There you go! I’m rocking a 1995 E34 525i, with all of 189hp. I put way too much tire in the rear (275/35/18) so it’s damn near impossible to break it loose, which means I can take corners at insanely fast speeds.

Maybe I’m just really cynical but the problem would just take care of itself then, no?

I mean, people still manage to die and kill pedestrians in these modern safety bubble cars, so that hasn’t changed too much. Yes, a lot more accidents are survivable now, but how many of those accidents are caused by distracted driving because modern cars are so boring and easy to drive?
