Manual transmission, somewhat underpowered naturally-aspirated engines, RWD, no traction control, and no cameras/blind spot monitors. Make people actually try to drive.
There goes Florida, being a shining example of the human race... again. Unfortunately the people here in Arizona aren’t much better— I saw a picture of people gathering for a Trump rally in Phoenix yesterday and almost nobody was wearing a mask. I also can’t believe that people cared enough to stand outside in 109º…
Apple carkey? Ha! My car doesn’t even have keyless entry, imagine that!
As somebody that used to work in web development, I wholeheartedly agree. I hate all the “smart home” stuff, and I want nothing to do with computers at this point. My home computer is a Mac Pro from 2008 that I keep repairing, my thermostat is a manual one, and all of my locks require keys. My car is a 1995 BMW 525i…
I could never justify owning a truck with how rarely I need to use one... I plan on putting a tow hitch on my BMW sedan so I can get a small trailer for the occasional times I need to move furniture or haul an engine around.
Southwest is #1 for sure. Between California and Arizona, you can find just about anything you’re looking for, and it’ll all be rust-free and generally nice.
The BMW S54 is up there for sure... 333hp from a 3.2L NA straight 6, and it revs to 8k! It also has ITB’s, for extra race motor points. And unlike a lot of race-inspired engines, they can easily survive to 200k miles with regular maintenance.
I agree wholeheartedly, policing is far too heavy-handed on the road nowadays and not at all fair. People doing really dumb stuff like driving on bald tires or swerving from lane to lane don’t get pulled over, but somebody minding their own business going with the flow of traffic gets pulled over for doing 5 mph over.…
The problem is that stupid screen stuck onto the dash... the nice thing about the 1-series and the older 3 series (E90) was that you could option them without the iDrive. Those cars have aged a lot better than the cars with the terrible early iDrive, and I imagine the current iDrive cars won’t age spectacularly either.
Yeah, that was the most surreal part of this article, that somebody who wasn’t a millionaire could afford a house in LA, particularly Los Feliz. I had a friend that lived in a tiny one-room shoebox apartment in Los Feliz so I’ve spent a lot of time there in the last few years and man that area is rich now. G-Wagens…
For all the information we have available to us online, I love having a few paper copies of service manuals at my shop. It really comes in handy for working on what I like to call “pre-internet” cars, aka cars that were made well before the internet and don’t have a big enough following nowadays to have tons of…
Any 944 for around $5k or less is an instant NP from me, even if they’re a little tedious to work on.
So people building Delorean time machines and KITT replicas are okay, but this isn’t? Seems really stupid.
It’s awful. And it has the same body lines as an Infiniti coupe. I’m continuing with my belief that BMW died in 2001, because almost everything they’ve made since then has been hot garbage, both in terms of styling and reliability.
The fact that they switched to a turbo V6 is kinda sad... I liked the supercharged V6, it had a fun character that made up for the fact that it was an otherwise dreary V6 (literally the worst of everything). Now it’s just yet another forgettable turbo V6 with a bit of lag. It’ll probably be less reliable too, since…
I don’t care too much about reliability, but since I keep buying BMW’s from the 90's I actually haven’t had too many issues. My 1995 BMW 525i has 223k miles and will basically run forever with basic maintenance since it’s a simple straight 6 with a 5-speed manual. My buddy just bought a 1987 BMW 535is and I anticipate…
Meanwhile in Arizona, all cars have this feature in the summer after being parked outside for more than 5 minutes.
Here in the Arizona junkyards, you would never even know there’s a pandemic happening. They’re just as packed as they always are, not a single person has any protection, and social distancing is more of a suggestion than anything. That could be down to the demographic that frequents these yards, they don’t really seem…
