I thought Michael Phelps was dumb as a box of rocks but apparently I was mistaken and that title should go to Ryan Lochte. Phelps is just not the sharpest knife in the drawer but still an amazing athlete and nice guy.

Gabby Douglas gets raked over the coals for not putting her hand on her heart but Ryan gets a pass for being a 32 year old man who gets drunk and pees in public and breaks a door and lies about it. Wtf?

Complain. Loudly. Frequently.

Yeah, she could do much better. She is smart, successful in her own right (more than him, frankly) and beautiful. I guess she must love him? But he clearly has zero respect for her/their marriage.

I didn’t mean to call you out! I was just expressing my general dismay with people. Asian men who aren’t interested in fucking me, for example.

Well sure. And obviously I’m speaking from personal experience so I didn’t internalize any stereotypes that may have prevented me from having sex with Asian guys. What I meant to express is that it’s especially galling that these ideas persist when the world is full of tangible evidence to their contrary.

Humans are so annoying. Should we need personal experience to refute a stereotype? Why can’t we get to the point where we recognize that if it’s a stereotype that it has to be wrong?

I agree. I imagine if you have a violent temper you aren’t very discriminate about who you raise a hand to, human or animal. Here is to hoping he gets mauled by tiny dogs with tiny teeth.

Yeah, whether it’s legitimate or not, I feel like you would hit a child, woman, or pet, the other two would be in play for abuse, too. It probably boils down to some dominance thing and it makes me sick.

Wow, that’s fucked up. He made a mistake, sure, but he doesn’t deserve to have his basketballs ruined.

The last line here is the most applicable to this story. Unless a dog is attacking you, there’s never a justification to hitting it.

You are awesome, and your kid will be too. :-D (Note: as mother of two, I guarantee whatever you plan for your child’s birth, that won’t be what actually happens. :-P To lesser or greater degree. May it be lesser!)

Ha, my husband is like “see you later sucker”and then leaves my short legs behind.

What really has me shaking my head is they even say “victory and medals are not the only goal...” but then proceed to trash these two for proving that exact point. I guess if they didn’t win they were supposed to burst into tears and throw a fit, or something?

As a twin I just want to say that I totally get this. You get to celebrate your Olympics with your best friend in the world who is also your sister who is also the person you’re closest to.

There is more to being an Olympic athlete than winning a medal. What about sportsmanship, trying your personal best, and engaging in the spirit of international, multicultural competition?

Yeah, that whole thing where they placed 1-2-3 in the 100m hurdles, took gold in both men and women’s long jump, finishing 1-2 in the women’s, or took home a medal for both men and women’s steeplechase, which they hadn’t done in years, or when the US men beat the reigning world champions in straight sets in

If my baton hand-off efforts were interrupted by the stroke of a hot Brazilian, I’d probably lose control and just wildly toss it as well.
