A USB port and bluetooth are universal. If you build a dock into your car you have to worry about whether it should be lightning or micro-USB (or even USB-C now) and possibly consider the size of the phones that will go into it, and whether a case will obstruct the dock.

I’m completely just speculating here. It probably uses a newer Thunderbolt standard so if anything you would likely have to wait for 2016 MBPs. My guess is there is razer software to go with it, which means you would have to run Windows (probably already doing this though if you’re gaming on a MBP).

That would probably cost them too much. My thought is the reason we are seeing these wonky placements is exactly because they want to piggyback on the popularity of tablets (without giving you the real thing). “Hey look, that car has a tablet strapped to the dash.”
