the first person i thought of was clint eastwood, but he really has been getting worse over the last few years.  still, he definitely made some great ones over the age of 60.

i only watched the pilot, but it seemed to me that sorkin didn't really understand comedy shows like he does politics…even 30 rock seems more realistic to me

diablo cody has the same problem

i feel like i've read everywhere else that this is their worst album, but pitchfork gives it a 7.1 and it gets a B here…strangey…

haven't listened to it, but i've read that a few other places too

everyone's posting great bands, but they're all small-time for the most part.  they have a nice niche built for themselves, but "best band" is something that sounds more universal…radiohead, arcade fire, maybe animal collective…those are the kinds of answers you should be seeing

beach house had my favorite record two years ago, i think why i don't like real estate as much is because their melodies just don't seem to stick with me.  but i agree, they have a very similar sound.

i still have not seen this.  is it worth a single viewing even?

i've never heard "inessential" before, i honestly had to look it up to make sure it existed.  didn't know there were so many ways to negate "essential".

critics might agree…it's doing extremely well on metacritic

yeah once you realize it's real, you start to feel really embarrassed

yeah, my brother works on sets as a PA and boom operator and now he just looks mostly for continuity errors or shadows or stuff like that when he watches movies

i never used the term rote slasher.  this should be fairly obvious if you'd read my post.

parties?  like, for birthdays?

edgar wright is an enormous talent.  it's nice to see he also has a great passion for watching and appreciating films, i don't think all directors are necessarily like that.

i agree completely.  brad pitt picks great projects, but doesn't really change from role to role.  and streep is the best, but she hasn't been in any of my favorite movies.

absolutely not - the nature scenes in tree of life were boring as hell, that's not why malick is a genius.  i think those shots were really disappointing, because they truly were like a nature doc; nothing special about them.

what's a demo?

ok, i concede there are too many "for"s in that sentence, but my point still remains

this is fun, now finish this one:
