Cursory glance at Wikipedia. Upon closer reading the number is "between 1 in 1,750 and 1 in 105 people" in the United States. That's a huge disparity. I'm curious: your figure of 1 in 133 - is that medically diagnosed with celiac disease, or the number of people who claim to be gluten-intolerant?

It appears my comment went over your head. I didn't tear anyone down for having celiac disease (and why the correction? I referred to it properly, no?). What I meant was that, in my opinion, the percentage of people on Jezebel who claim to have celiac disease seems really disproportionate. And where are you getting

You are going to get so flamed for this. I tried to make a similar point after the FDA recent decision, and I got jumped on. Celiac disease affects something like 1 in 1750 people in the US, and they're all on Jezebel.

No thanks. When you respond to a comment you should, at the very least, have a knowledge of the previous conversation. Otherwise you just come across as a lazy bastard.

Again...

"if you really want it to taste like a processed white castle thing, eat a boca burger. you put it in the bun with the toppings and shit on there, it tastes the same."

Read my other replies. You know, the ones responding to every other person who has said exactly the same thing.

My point exactly. If the intent is truly to protect celiacs the statement would be printed on the back of the package with all the other statements (no soy, milk products, tree nuts, etc). You don't see KOSHER!!!! printed on the front of every kosher product...

I've gotten a bit jumped on here, and not fairly, in my opinion. You seem to be missing my point. The huge "Gluten Free!" labeling on every damn product at the market has nothing to do with protecting people who legitimately have celiac disease. It is purely done for marketing purposes, and is aimed at selling the

Also, fist pump for Chicago. I love this damn city!!!

I am totally not trying to speak for you. And I disagree that "deciding that girls are being high maintenance " harms you. When you go to a restaurant and ask if an entree is gluten-free, what do you think the waiter/waitress thinks? I can tell you, they're rolling their eyes at you and telling you "yes," even if the

Thanks for the correction.

But this is actually harmful to people with legitimate Celiac's (which, by the way, actually affects a ridiculously low percentage of the population, but every girl I know who is "high maintenance" is all of a sudden gluten intolerant - what are the odds?). Making this a diet fad actually does harm people who

Sorry, but no. That isn't on the package to signal that the processing is wheat-free. It's sole purpose is to jump on the Gluten-Free Fad. It's marketing, not responsible manufacturing/processing. Two very different things.

"The bigger issue is with putting the label on stuff that's clearly not, like spelt bread or chocolates with malt in them."

Can we also stop printing "Gluten Free" on foods that are naturally gluten free? That shit drives me insane! If it never had gluten in it in the first place, there's really no need to print it on the package! Oh look! Gluten free steaks! Seriously?

By the way, sometimes guys fake it too.

Hmmm. I've never had the Tofurkey ones. I don't do well with the soy. Doesn't Field Roast have "hot dogs" as well? Not "sausages," but more traditional hot-dog style products?

Shut yer mouth! Woody Allen is a genius.

Thank god for seitan bacon...
