Ironically I passed the same model car as I own with a flat on the side of the highway this morning (I central Connecticut). I drive in NYC regularly but not daily at all.

The USA has arguably the best rail system in the world. For freight. And it requires virtually no taxpayer handouts. Freight and passenger rail are pretty much incompatible.  Freight isn’t sexy and doesn’t give politicians any opportunity for graft so no one talks about it.
