A writer saw an interesting thing in a game and pitched a discussion piece about it. This is something that’s always been in the games; it’s acknowledged among fans (myself included) and worth writing about.

Because god forbid somebody imply a media product you like is at fault for anything.  God you fuckin nerds

Women being bullied in the video game community is NEVER a topic that is ludicrous to talk about. Kotaku keeps talking about this because assholes like you keep ignoring that it’s a real problem. And yes you are an asshole for dismissing things like this article as “ludicrous.”

I understand your point, but I feel like these games have existed with these characters and this messaging system for years and years now and this is honestly the first I’ve heard about it.

Must be nice to be white , male. Us minorities will just stop fighting against racism and bigotry and go outside and play

It seems to me like a much wider issue, it’s not specifically about the souls games or their community, it’s the entire gaming community that’s... Well... Sexist.

Oh, come on. The writer loves the series, dislikes this aspect of it, writes a piece that explains what happens in the games and what might be behind it.

Part of what Ario is exploring in this piece is why this happens in these games—the extent to which it is elements of the community, the content of the games, the culture of game difficulty, etc. Plenty of possible factors. As Ario also points out, most of the messages in the games aren’t like this.

I did write several paragraphs about Japanese culture but realized everything I wrote applied to our culture too. So lets just go with my summation:

I think it’s that grand myth of ‘good girls don’t (except they really do).’ Only ‘contemptible’ women actually enjoy being sexual people, so that’s not how you define ‘sexy’. Any ‘good’ woman would protest and look upset - but secretly she wants it, of course.

Something something REEEEEEE, something something CENSORSHIP.

I hated The Witcher 3. I found it an unpleasant slog through an overly faux-mature “edgy” world full of terrible depictions of women.

Okay, I am not gonna say streaming isn’t a real job, but you do realize that describes almost every job ever, don’t you? Most of us are doing all of the things you just mentioned, for a fraction of the money and none of the fame.

Yeah, that’s what gets to me. I remember a tournament (I forget which one it was) where the Melee fans started booing the Smash 4 finals because they were taking too long and they just wanted to get to Melee.

Women in videogames have no choice, because they’re fictional characters that have as much agency as their writers/creators/the script gives them.

You weep for a future where people don’t get lung cancer anymore. Wow. You’re really messed up.

Or maybe Japan is finally abandoning it’s VERY dated stereotypes of what looks cool and badass... probably not, but F@&k cigarettes.

> I mean real Pokemon games. “They still make those?” Sigh...

Gamerbro: Sigh I just wish there were girls who liked games the way I do, where is my gamer princess.
