I was taught in grammar school in the 70's that “they” was used in cases where you wanted/need to be gender-neutral. I’m really surprised at how many people skipped this lesson.

this is kinda good to me because it confirms if Cotton or Hawley are going to resonate with the Cultists and use that Cult 45 “mojo” to get nominated in 2024, they are going to have seriously dumb down their rhetoric, because there is no way the average mouth-breather Trump fan understood more than 60% of what he said.

It’s likely to reduce transmission -- if your immune system is attacking the virus before it can infect your cells, then they’re not going to be hijacked to produce more copies of the virus, so the viral load shed by your lungs is going to go down. To what degree, they don’t know yet, but there will almost certainly

Yep, you’re still contributing to the overall goal of vaccinating everybody, even if the timing is off.

It’s not true that it “does not at all prevent the transmission of the virus whatsoever.”

I was offered the vaccine through work and you’re damn right I accepted, for the exact reasons you stated. I can’t control who it goes to if I decline. And the vaccine is only effective when mostly everybody gets it. Might as well get it out of the way early if I can.

I just wanted to add some perspective. I think this phrase runs right through some politispeech.

Weird, you must not be paying attention (chances are higher that you’re actually a Nazi who doesn’t care), because all of those things did happen. And they’re being reported by multiple media outlets.

Your inability to notice armed rioters looting the Capitol building, planting explosives, and beating a police officer to death with a fire extinguisher, while committing domestic terrorism in the cause of overturning the lawful election of someone they didn’t like, is emblematic of how “it’s not bad when white people

This isn’t who we should be. Leadership should get away from the mealy mouthedness and say it clearly: This is not who I want to be, and you shouldn’t either.

Don’t worry, the selfish calculating the risk fuckers who decided to travel all summer and now continue to do it in the fall and winter because they didn’t get sick will continue to do whatever they want and then say “see everything was fine and you’re worried about nothing/ we are young so were not worried about

That’s why personal responsibility is so important. If you’ve been made aware of exposure, you need to act as though you’re infected until you are sure otherwise. That means either waiting the 14 days, or waiting 5 days and getting a test performed (then waiting for the results).
Understandably this is difficult for

The problem with testing and positivity is the logarithmic scale. The closer to exposure the less accurate and fewest symptoms. The longer the time between exposure and symptoms matches somewhat the testing accuracy. Wait to test and get more accurate results, or test early with a higher false negative risk. And

I completely agree with the proposition that, if someone wants you to call them a certain name, then you call them that name. That’s very basic. But I’m a lot less comfortable with the idea that elements of language itself are now not just instantaneously changeable but also enforceable by sociopolitical fiat.

Stay home for 14 days following exposure - if you develop symptoms get tested locally ASAP.
Or remove all doubt and drive the 30 miles after 4-5 days of exposure (even if you aren’t displaying symptoms).

These parties celebrate a baby’s gender as their primary identifying characteristic—after all, we know very little else about them at that point.

If they were really that anxious to find out, they’d let the doctor tell them instead of taking a sealed envelope to the bakery/color bomb factory/plane pilot. They’re taking advantage of another excuse to have a party. Whatever. Just don’t kill your mom or burn half the state down.

While I think gender reveal parties are really fucking stupid, the primary reason why we didn’t find out the sex of any of our childrenis that the traditional “gender reveal” of your child, i.e. the doctor in the hospital room saying “it’s a girl!!” is one of life’s few remaining great surprises. I get that people are

I revealed my gender at a party once. It...didn't go well.
