I'd actually considered getting a Canon for Magic Lanterning, but in the end, the features in the new Alphas (NEXs cam as well) meant that I need not muss with additional firmwares and what not.
Funny thing is, my hearings actually changed quite a bit (from becoming an amateur to promateur FOH engineer), that it's become tuned from listening to direct conversation to ambient/music hearing from further distances vs. closer distance. Knowing how your hearing works also will help you preserve it.
You also may have your earwax levels checked by an audiologist as well if you're serious about hearing. And do not use Q-Tip to clean your ear canals, as if you're not careful, you may end up pushing the earwax in, as it packs the wax and negatively impacts your hearing.
