I think if you parked them next to each other the differences would get more obvious. You'd be able to see instantly how much higher the Malibu sits off the ground, how much shorter the hood is, and how different the greenhouses look.
I just don't see the similarity. The proportions are so different. If those are similar, then a 3-series is similar to a Camry. One sits low and has traditional RWD proportions with long dash-to-axle, short overhangs, and an airy greenhouse. The other looks like a FWD CUV with a trunk, sitting high on its axles…
So far, sadly, the answer seems to be not enough demand to bother tooling up a line in North America. We'll see if maybe Chevy revisits that decision after the Alpha Camaro drops. An Alpha-based SS about the size of the new CTS but with an LT1 would be a really neat product.
The problem is that none of the G8s except the GXP made a profit. So they priced the SS like a GXP (adjusting for inflation) and gave it even more feature content than the GXP had. Production in Australia is really expensive. That's why it's shutting down in two years.
Funny, I like the front end. I think it fares really well in the comparison above with the Malibu. From the front the SS looks like a conservative sports sedan — like what BMW used to be — and the Malibu looks like a van.
Yep, my Forester has them too, also with no logo. They're really useful when it's wet. The logo version is completely douchey, but so are a lot of other things about current luxury cars (and other luxury goods).
They're doing that. You can go halfway to SUV with the V60 Cross Country, or all the way with the XC60 (essentially the same car).
"Why would anyone buy this over a Charger?"
Production isn't shutting down until early 2017. There should be a 2016 model year for the SS in the US.
You can get an Ecoboost Flex for $41k MSRP, and there are discounts available. You should be able to get one for under $40k OTD.
Unless you think that cars should be able to take a corner without scraping their door handles. Seriously, the K900 handles like an '84 Town Car.
To be pedantic, the Caprice PPV is a Caprice/Statesman, not a Commodore. (Longer wheelbase and different bodywork.)
Wow, all you people apparently can't see proportions.
Uh... one looks like a RWD sport sedan and the other looks like a tall FWD-based CUV with a chopped sedan roofline. The only thing they have in common is they're both sedans.
The reason the Flex isn't selling is the following:
You people who are saying the SS looks like a Malibu are blind.
Is there a single honest dealership in New Jersey? Everyone in that state has some kind of hustle or scam going. It's not a place to meet honest people.
I think these days that's getting closer to 4 s.
I guess I should specify a lb/HP ratio rather than a number of horsies — I was really thinking in terms of big GTs and sedans. I'd be perfectly happy with a 10 ratio, but lately it seems like you have to have 6 or 7 to be taken seriously. That's where RWD becomes just about impossible to manage.
