As long as my head crests the hill before my headlamps do, adaptive headlamps do squat for blinding the hell out of me when I most need to see what was blocked by the hill. What adaptive headlamps do is make the owner of them feel better about lighting up neighboring houses with the power of a thousand suns because…
How I miss cars that were designed by people with some damn sense.
I had an anti reflective coating added to my prescription glasses and it has made a WORLD or difference driving at night. It doesn’t dim lights, but taking away all the glare makes a massive difference.
I’ve seen them on European spec cars. I don’t know if it is legal to have them in America.
Related, window tinting also helps tremendously. We have the rears tinted to 20-25% (I can’t remember exactly) and windshield to something like 60% (I know, there’s likely legality issues on that one), it makes a huge difference driving down busy streets with headlights glaring from the front and the back…
Also, if every single Tesla Model Y on the road could have their headlights properly aimed from the factory, that would be great, thanks...
I think this is a part of why EV sales are tanking, manufacturers are including ALL THE THINGS in their base EVs.
Elon Musk may be wrong about most things, but on one thing he was dead right: hydrogen is dumb. It’s either wastefully inefficient or it’s just natural gas with an extra (unnecessary step). If you are going to make a crazy v12, just run it on gas. If you want to greenwash it, maybe just run it on E85 and call it…
I remember that at the time it was a badge of honor if you owned a ZR1 or gen 4 Viper and could drive it into the 10's unmodified. Perfect DA, a well prepped track, and some clutch abuse could net you the magic high 10 second time slip.
I think the C6 body style has aged better. They lost me with the C7, it’s kind of mess of mismatched shapes and black plastic cladding. But to each his own.
I personally think the C6 Z06 is the pinnacle. 7.0L NA V8 is just amazing. The styling is restrained in a way I enjoy. But the ZR1 has that dopey clear hood panel to look at the engine cover that would just make me feel like the biggest dork ever. Plus it’s heavier.
These numbers are strong today, so 15 years ago they were pretty much out of this world.
Always loved Top Gear episode where they took muscle cars to the US. Good episode, and Clarkson loves the ZR1, which is fun to see.
Disagree on Bangle, BMW’s mid 00s designs don’t really hold up. I like the E90, but that’s it. The upside down headlights just make the car look dopey.
Not to mention dramatic overvaluation to begin with.
Biggest sign of a good one?
This may have been pretty at the time, but I honestly find it horrendously boring with clumsy proportions and detailing.
So much for the stereotype of EV owners being laid-back and friendly lol.
IMO it does not make sense to buy an EV if you are planning to rely on a charging network for anything outside of the occasional longer trip. If it is your commuter car, you’d better have a 40Amp+ charger in your garage or dedicated parking space. Anything else and you’re better off with a PHEV, HEV, or just regular…
