By not placing yourself at risk in the first place, these are tour groups almost specifically for viewing the bears. They should not be going ashore outside of population centres.

There is probably an energy and nutrient cost to being always prepared. And not being able to eat or increased risk of infection would make a mouth wound a big priority for healing.
