Its wasteful at least in the sense that you end up with more waste, generally plastic: fruit and vegetables come in their own – compostable – wrapping designed by nature. You are getting rid of that and using another new and probably non-recyclable plastic wrapping.

I think we place too much emphasis on recycling, it’s both expensive and not efficient (recyclable does not mean it will indeed be recycled).
