Wow, that’s a weird thing to say. You think a union business manager gives enough of a fuck about what a lone contractor spews on an internet message board that nobody who could make a difference reads to pay for it? Fuck, maybe I should ask him!

You’re adorable.
“Capitalism is a free-market form of eugenics and a mechanism to advance the quality of the human genetic pool with respect to intelligence traits at a faster rate than natural selection.”
The structure of economies is a political choice, you dolt. Economics isn’t a science and economies aren’t bound by determinsitic laws of motion. All that we need to do to create a future where the means of production aren’t owned by a smaller and smaller class of oligarchs is organize and make a claim to the means of…
Damn... What dream world do you live in? Most companies do exactly all of what you say and flourish, which is exactly why we are in the predicament we are and which is why this article was written in the first damn place.
Again, they in no way “predominantly favor the incompetent” not even close. They are obligated to protect them up to a point but they do not make the actions of those workers the standard by which they want other workers to conduct themselves.
Is your argument that economic inequality is not a problem because a lot of people are working a second job whose earnings they don’t report on their income? Besides there being many things wrong with the anecdotal nature of this argument, that income inequality only vanishes once we consider that people are working…
Union do not “only” favour the incompetent members. My general experience with Unions has been that they also do not like these workers as they weaken the bargaining ability during contract talks.
People not understanding issues at hand have been the bane of my existence as a voter. “So you’re on 15 different types of government assistance, but you’re voting for the guy who wants to cut said programs in order to lower taxes for a tax bracket that you aren’t even in... because he said he loves Jesus. Sure,…
Don’t lump teachers’ unions in with police unions. The idea that there are no consequences for being a bad teacher is fueled by anti-union propaganda. Teachers’ unions represent teachers that do bad things, because teachers don’t give up their rights because they screw up (otherwise those rights aren’t worth a damn).…
But they don’t always do that - just like the general public in elections, sometimes unions vote for poor leadership for a variety of reasons and just don’t know any better.
There’s everything wrong with workers receiving the benefits of a collectively-bargained contract without paying their fair share of the costs.
nope, sorry. the problem is you, a non union worker, are benefiting both directly and indirectly from the bargaining that unions do on behalf of their members. you are literally fucking the cow and getting the milk for free as a result of the way the contracts are forced to be structured.
Plenty wrong with them reaping the benefits of a union contract without paying into said union
Right. Which is why we have laws that make that illegal. The 1947 NLRA stipulates that if employees choose to organize and form/join a local labor union, management cannot replace them and must bargain in good faith. They also cannot replace or discipline employees for organizing or any other “concerted activity.” …
Hey look everybody! White trash defending the rich whose ranks he will never, ever join!
The members. The members have to keep their leadership in check, and make sure to elect good people. They have to take their roles seriously.
This is exactly the fight to the bottom that the moneyed interests want. It takes time to build consensus. The point is to reach those non union employees and make them realize that they are worth more.
There are so many things wrong with this statement that I don’t know where to begin.
American consumers is biggest road block to workers rights. Time and time again, Americans reward companies that exploit workers. Until consumers recognize their power and their role as ethical consumers, this is pissing in wind.
