Its not due to demos being a thing of the past, its just plenty of data shows they generally reduce sales of the game, because either the demo fills the void and people are happy to just play that bit of demo or the demo really shows how crap the game is.

While I did enjoy the 3D portions and Sonic colors, they both had problems and annoyances with controls and cameras. There would be plenty of times you died or lost due to poor design or glitches rather than the player messing up.
