Oryx and Crake is so amazing. It’s a dystopia not unlike the Handmaids Tale, but focused on environmentalism. She does such a great job tying environmental degradation to gender violence and social inequality.
It’s a fair critique of a woman coming out of a breakup, not a situation where she was sexually assaulted. So while “let’s not generalize men” sounds like it’s applicable to recent times, it’s really talking about a coping mechanism that both men and women use right after a romantic fallout, in my opinion.
