This will probably be fake news to distract us from the truth

Right — there is too much attention being paid to the wrong shit (piss) here. The sex and urine stuff is stupid. The other stuff matters. But the American public will always, ALWAYS latch on to sex and pee pee jokes over the important stuff, every fucking time.

I know a lot of people here are anti twitter but it’s ground zero for this story and I recommend it.

Thing is we get a Pence presidency either way. Trump just wants to hold rallies and let Pence do everything else. Getting rid of Trump at least alleviates some of my existential terror. (I’ve never had a dream involving a nuclear explosion in my life . . . until a few nights ago.)

LOL

How can this be compromising for a man who brags about committing sexual assault, who brags about not paying taxes, who mocks the disabled, who is openly racist and who lies openly when confronted on these topics? Trump is a disgusting and vile human being who cannot be compromised because of his mores because he has

Plz America not let titillation/LOL factor of prostitutes and golden showers distract and overtake from the treason and corruption kthnxbai.

This country is such vile shit right now, and I do mean basically everybody but maybe the middle 5% of the political spectrum.

+1 ew

But, that’s not how our legal system works. It will end up being more expensive to kill him than to keep him alive. Also, we are still taking a human life, which is wrong unless they are threatening an innocent person.

Bingo. It’s definitely a stacked deck in that regard. If you are principled, then you have to lie to gain an opportunity to take a principled stand. If you’re honest, you’re excluded. Contradiction much?

And I respect your right to disagree! I think this is one of those scenarios where two people can fully explain their stance, have it be completely comprehended by the other person, and still find that they are in disagreement.

It is the desire to leave the option open for the “occasional exception” that keeps us from ending the vile practice once and for all. He deserves it, absolutely, but it’s likely that at least 1 in 25 people on death row are innocent. It’s not fucking worth it.

I would argue from a position that the intentional taking of a life is immoral in all cases that are not to prevent said life from taking innocent lives. By that rubric, the death penalty is immoral in all cases.

We will not make the justice system any more fair to black people by extending its more barbaric aspects to white people.

Yet, it’s a really enlightening experience for a lot of people. I’ve been called up three times, served on one. You get to know people who you might have never even thought of talking to before. And, when presented with actual facts, they’re often quite thoughtful. Surprisingly, the less educated jury members often

Well said.

There are people in the United States who (rightfully) respond with shock and horror at regimes sanctioning the beheading of criminals: this seems so far beyond the pale.

Setting the morality (or lack thereof) of the death penalty aside, I feel like people who would now view Dylann Roof as a martyr would still have viewed him with admiration even if he got life in prison. Why should those people’s opinions matter any when it comes to giving Roof a worthy punishment?

The man is going to live out the rest of is days on Death Row. The chances of him seeing the executioner is probably less than 50% (much less, I imagine). However, I’d rather he rot under the jail for life as a lesson to other white nationalists rather than to die as a martyr to some incredibly stupid cause.
