Meh, progress is progress. I don’t think people are applauding whatever minimum standards the church has set for itself, they are applauding the fact that it has set standards for itself. He’s less the “cool Pope” than he is a triumph of “style over substance.” He has talked a good game but has actually done NOTHING to change the Catholic Church’s backward attitudes on women, gays, abortion, etc., and has failed prosecute its predatory leaders. He must be called out as a PR Pope.
