@colormist: One cue I wish I had gotten earlier... The language in which Borlú speaks is supposed to sound foreign. The rhythm is completely off... But the author starts introducing more hints that help us realize we're reading a translation and by then we're accustomed to how they say things.

Now playing

@dalektikal: The guy is really multi-talented and I'm a bit embarrassed for those who do not seem to realize the depth of his talent. He's a hard worker that's for sure.

@faustmonkey: You need to go watch "The Proposition," stat.

Hi Annalee! Don't know if this post is the right place for the following info or if I should have posted in #tips, but here it is. Please forgive if I'm doing in it wrong.

@colormist: Hang in there... It does get better! On Saturday, I sat my ass down after all my corrections and started reading. To help me through I divided the rest of the books in chunks! That's how silly I was acting! Going "Woohoo! 2 more chunks to go!"

@33rd°: Sorry, reading this late so you may have already found your answer.

@wolvenhold: Good feedback! I haven't read it a second time yet, but I admit that read the last chapters 2-3 times each though... Lots of really good work there. Delicate construction.

@kleer001: Thanks for your interest! I thought the thread was dead!

@kleer001: Totally agree there! I made a few connections as well...

@kleer001: Unfortunately it would not fit in the other well-known category. The author created a new country with new rules, so it's not historical, and it's definitely not regular fiction as this world is so far from our reality... OK, so it's not really the darkest of dystopia but life does seem a little bit "Brave

@Better_red_than_dead: Isn't it always about money in the end? No matter what, it seems that the human race really has one priority.

@Chip Overclock: I had a friend who visited the Czech Republic when it was still called Czechoslovakia. He told me of going to restaurant that catered to tourists. They had these fancy menus with all these different choices but if you asked for anything else besides borscht, pierogi (and 2 or 3 other choices) the

@Dr Emilio Lizardo: But don't you think it begged the question if only because there were a lot of references to contemporary pop culture?

@Briareosdx: Thanks for this post... I think you just cleared up something I was about to mention with regards to rhythm...

@Dr Emilio Lizardo: I like your explanation. Reading this book somehow reminded me of some moviegoers' impressions about the dreams in Inception.

@Briareosdx: Wouldn't that rule pertain to the mystery itself that the detective is trying to solve?

Damn it! I rushed from work to get here earlier, but some students were taking their sweet time to finish their test! ;)

@jcruss69: Not sure what you mean by crossing over. Do you mean switching from one city to the next? Towards the last chapters, the author started mentioning the different gait used depending on which city you were in. Even more when it had to do with being in the crosshatch.
