It's a valid nitpick. And yes, it was a line from a Fey portrayal. The real Palin has spoken admiringly of Putin's leadership, but advised vigilance (back in 2015). More recently she has been supportive of Trump's stance on foreign policy, specifically the anti-Muslim bit. Fey may have given her too much credit.
