BMW is stuck in a serious rut.

If you think the CLS of any model year is ugly, I sincerely question your taste in cars, there arent many 4 door cars that look better.

One thing is that a lot of what you’ve listed only plays in the lower (sub-300 hp) performance levels of the crossovers listed in the article.

Nothing if you really think about it. The Stelvio is pretty much a raised hatchback version of the Giulia. If any of the North American automakers decide to make a SUV or Crossover based on their sports sedans then they could compete. The closest from Infiniti would be the QX50, which is pretty much a last gen G37

Well that tends to happen when you list the best cars in a given class ;)

Which Asian or North American crossovers compete with the Stelvio? The Lexus RX? Infiniti QX60? Buick Enclave? Cadillac SRX? Whatever Mazda, Honda and Ford have in this class?

Well, actually, you can make progress that way. If Y1 is previous sales and Y2 is new sales, and X1 is old average transaction and X2 is new average transaction, then if X2 * Y2 > X1 * Y1 then you have made progress.

The current V6 is a new generation of motor from the one in your Cadillac.

I have. It’s called “merging onto a Houston highway from a parking lot on the access road”. That engine better have some giddyup.

Do you remember when car enthusiasts hated small Japanese sports cars like the Miata? Pepridge Farm remembers.

Yes. My old boss had a 2005 Miata MX5 convertible. It was fun to throw around, but not a particular enjoyable car to cruise around in. I can understand buying a Miata if you want to track it all the time, but as a car to cruise around in? Not so much.

It’s personal opinion. I’d rather spend the money on a Camaro

Much improved.

Really needs the AWD RWD.

That is a throwback to when Honda still “had it” and everyone else wanted it, but couldn’t quite get there.

1) If you guys had covered the NYIAS reveal of the Buick Enclave AT ALL, you’d have known that the old LLT V6 is being replaced in the new model by the LaCrosse’s new 3.6L V6. This publication’s almost total indifference to Buick - as it obsesses about the latest Camry facelift - baffles me.

Counterpoint:

The XT5 is really a sharp-edged Buick, but that’s OK, because it pays the bills and keeps the lights on at the Caddy dealer.

If that Buick sedan doesn’t sell well enough, then that’s a pretty good reason not to have it. Buick needs to be profitable, even in the US. The worst thing for Buick would be to have an

Cadillac needs to push up market period. The smallest, cheapest Cadillac needs to be an E-class competitor, coupe and all.

Let’s say GM gives us the Regal Gran Coupe with the 288 hp engine and the same AWD setup that’s going to be on the Regal Outback... Assuming weight comes in at 3,900 lbs, that’s 13.5 lbs/hp - same as an E60 530i or a BRZ. That’s totally acceptable for ordinary driving. Remember, that Buick doesn’t need a track weapon

The Regal won’t get the Camaro V6, but the upcoming ATS-replacement CT3/CT4 likely will. Here’s hoping they offer it with a manual this time. I certainly have more faith in Cadillac than Buick.
