I just posted a recipe I found from a prize winner from this festival, that I’m definitely curious to try. :)

In one of her memoirs, Ruth Reichl waffles for a chapter or two about Alice Waters’ annual garlic festival which was apparently a thing in San Francisco at some point during the 80s (because of course it was). The menu for one festival included garlic meringues as part of the dessert course.

About a decade ago, I asked my commercial agent to stop submitting me to anything alcohol related because I wasn’t the “hot girl” and the experience of trying to be “the hot girl” was throwing what little self esteem I had left in the gutter. I wanted out.”

I am fairly certain there was a What Would You Do about this.

My parents are white and I’m not. After being made aware of a few instances of dirty looks and comments from people, I became very used to calling my dad “Dad” repeatedly when we were going to the movies or meeting for lunch etc, when I was in my late teens and early twenties.

Hello hi as someone who makes the odd ice cream hot pudding from time to time, I think it’s important to note this is more successful if you use “real” ice cream made with more actual eggs, sugar and milk or cream, and fewer egg and milk powders, artificial sweeteners and stabilisers/thickeners. So pick a good quality

Roast beef was always well done in our household. Having to choke down a slice or two of dry well done roast beef made dinner time feel like I was being punished for something.

Some women were also brought up to not finish everything on their plate, or ask for seconds, because if you’re a girl you should have a dainty lady appetite.

For real, this sounds like if you gave someone who’d never seen or experienced food before a kitchen and told them to go at it.

Until I was about eight we never had gravy when we had a roast dinner. There was mint jelly, redcurrant jelly, mustard, horseradish, etc., depending on what kind of roast it was, but no gravy. I had no idea gravy was a thing, I just knew I HATED when dinner was roast beef (always cooked to well done) and would have

I’m not American so I legit don’t know this - would paying for a kid’s meal versus an adult’s meal significantly alter the tip? Maybe that’s a factor?

It’s on the long side, but here’s an interesting study about empathy response to seeing pain reactions from men and women - and also subdivided into more attractive men, less attractive men, more attractive women and less attractive women. Less attractive men and more attractive women ranked the highest in evincing emp

It’s funny how some industries seem to only give a fuck about exploitation of women when they’re not benefiting from it. The Marriott has also been in the media lately for its loudly and proudly training employees to watch out for signs that guests are sex trafficking victims (clues include women dressed a bit sexily

I really don’t like Rent, but I’m starting to kind of have a backlash to the Rent backlash.

Apparently they’re kind of considered dorky as hell, but IMHO you can’t disregard the Culinaria series when considering cook books covering a specific country’s cuisine. For anyone who doesn’t know, the Culinaria books, you know, Culinaria China, Culinaria Spain, Culinaria East Asia, etc, etc., go through a nation or

And you just know that the sort of men in business who’ve now decided to freeze out and deny opportunity to women they want to fuck lest they get accused of harassment or whatever, have been doing this foreeeeeveeeeeeeer to women they don’t want to fuck, because why engage with a woman professionally, or even hire in

I’m the same. I’m one of the ones where I was given up anonymously, and all they know about me is the date of birth that was supplied. I’m in my 30s now, and my reasons for having no interest in trying to find my birth parents are the same as yours.

Adoption: sometimes it’s a fairytale, sometimes it’s a nightmare, most often it’s somewhere in between.
