This was discovered about House Hunters a couple of years back and...no one cared. People watch these shows because they’re nosy about other people’s houses, not because they care about the buying process.

Your logic can be turned around on the movies themselves. "Frankly I think it's rude for Peter Jackson to monkey around with Tolkien's story. He should make his own Hobbit story, and see how well it does." And in that case, there's no reason fans should refrain from editing the movies.
