Heimdall is a mythical figure, and a member of a non-human species. Heck, in the MCU version of Thor, aren’t they even some kind of freaky extra-dimensional aliens? In other words, he does not exist, and claiming that Idris Elba doesn’t look like the “real” Heimdall is just ridiculous.

The US economy is still larger than the Chinese economy, and is currently expected to remain the largest in the world until 2031. China’s growing more quickly, and has almost 4x the population, but I think it’s over-simplifying to say that it’s “more of an economic powerhouse than we are.”

Just because one of the statues is of a bunny and it’s outside doesn’t mean that area is for specifically for children.

You mean Don Pardo. Jim(my) Pardo is a successful, still-living, and unrelated stand-up comedian and podcaster.

I challenge you to find even one person who decides whether or not to watch the Academy Awards based on the musical performances.

No, she’s not. How hard is it to actually look shit up?

My favorite bit is where “NO FAST MOVEMENTS” is immediately followed by “NO SLOW MOVEMENTS,” which is just so very Goldilocks of him. That and “DO NOT EVER LOOK AT THE JUMBOTRON.”

Don’t fret yourself, that one wasn’t actually on the list. Ken was just making a reference to the old-timey movie Ghostbusters.

So ... everipedia is like Wikipedia for lazy people without concerns about copyright issues, is that it?

Thank you for this. When the Patriot Act got rammed through after 9/11 it was liberals who pointed out how “terrorism” was a near-meaningless term that was getting dumbed down and had the potential to give the government gratuitous powers in other areas of criminal justice. Now we’ve conceded the battle over language

I get that HL is a privately owned company, but other than the mention in the article of the “Hobby Lobby compound,” whatever the hell that means, there’s literally nothing in the Daily Beast story that ties the business to this activity. It’s the owners of the company and the museum they fund that are screwing around

Actually, (s)he said, “No big deal,” which I think falls a little short of being “fine” with something, but the overarching issue is that the kid was young enough to require supervision, and it’s not the store’s responsibility to provide that supervision. The worker didn’t object with the kid being there because (s)he

I know you’re probably getting piled on, here, but did you miss the part where he was eating greasy fast food hashbrowns in a book store? There’s no way a 4 year old wouldn’t both make a mess *and* ruin a few books doing that.

Anti-abortion activists have been comparing abortion to slavery and themselves to abolitionists for literally decades, so I’m not sure why this is surprising to anyone.

What was great about the Ewoks was that they were both adorable and vicious little violent killers. They kill a BUNCH of Imperial soldiers over the course of the movie, and let’s not forget that they were planning to eat everyone before Luke did his little number with the levitation. The stupid song at the end did a

Sorry, you’re right, you did say they would definitely make “more money per view” rather than just straight up “more money,” but I still don’t think that can be assumed based on the evidence available. And I especially don’t think that just because YouTube *can* give a bigger slice of the profits that they actually

“The obvious incentive is to give a higher payout per view else no content creator would agree to YT Red.”

They’ll just build it into the standard user agreement. If a casual user uploads a video it won’t have any ads and can be shown on both platforms. If you request ads, or your video does well enough that the company asks you to include ads, you’ll have to agree to the Red terms as part of the deal.

“It seems to indicate that this YT Red service will provide content creators more money per view than the traditional “PPM” advertisement deal does.”

You think there are more YouTube users with an ad blocker installed than there are without? You have a much rosier view of the tech savvy of most people in the world than I do. You don’t have to actually click on an ad for the video creator to make money, you just have watch a certain amount of it.
