Brady Anderson! I think I was fascinated as a 9-year old O’s fan by the sideburns and occasional power. I actually saw him at Camden Yards maybe three years ago and couldn’t believe that he still looks somewhat like ‘90s Brady Anderson, considering his age.

I’m having a chuckle at the fact that all of the uniformed people in that photo are U.S. military. Tough duty!

This.

What makes this more sad is that Jonah obviously respects and admires Bill and has for a while. If you ever listen to Jonah’s podcasts, any mention of Bill Simmons is preceded or followed by at least two or three glowing, sincere compliments.

Semi-related: Jonah Keri’s podcast on Nerdist is really good. He’s got his head on straight and is a fun, sincerely interested interviewer who gets great guests. His CBS podcast is fine, but it’s more specific baseball reporting.

My favorite pronunciation I’ve ever heard is Ka-zer-key.

You make good points about living in Hawai’i. The spelling of Hawai’i used in the article is the correct Hawaiian spelling. The apostrophe is called an ‘okina, and in the Hawaiian written language it marks a glottal stop (like a kind of hesitation) when pronouncing the word.

The Jayson Werth Chia beard last year was amazing, too.

I saw one last week and thought exactly that.

The Braves’ playoff hopes are in jeopardy with this loss.

Having lived in College Station for a few years, nonsense like “I guard (Texas A&M football) and respect it with my life” is pretty standard.

I mean, there *are* lots of New Englanders at the University of Maryand.

It’s the TSA Instagram account. It’s hilarious, and apparently people love to travel with throwing stars shaped like Batman symbols. They also put up baseball card-style images of their bomb-sniffing dogs.

Several MLB teams have “Faith Day” events, which are sort-of framed as multidenominational events but end up being primarily evangelical Christian-oriented. They’re usually before or after a game, and they’ll trot out a preacher and any players on the team who want to talk about their religious beliefs. LaRoche was

“We’re not big on school,” LaRoche said. “I told my wife, ‘He’s going to learn a lot more useful information in the clubhouse than he will in the classroom, as far as life lessons.’” https://www.washingtonpost.com/sports/nationa…
