No the name is "iPad", they are just referring to it in advertising as the new iPad. I guess you wont call the iPod touch "iPod touch" either? I mean there are only 4 other products with the same name. It is simply known as "iPad (3rd generation)" in the Apple Store and Apple Support documentation.
The official name is "iPad" so technically you did use it and added a 3 at the end.
