Genuinely curious what the split is. A friend of mine was recently a juror on a capital murder case, and it’s amazing what one lone hold out can do.

From the linked article:

In his defense, he was only 10, and probably totally freaked out.

Both the holiday and the embarrassing come at the end of this story.

Lol. wat.

I was expecting a kind of puff piece rant, but this was a very thoughtful and insightful analysis. I instinctively bristled at Elmo’s rise, and this helped me understand some of the underpinning to that reaction. Great read.

Uh... Did people in the 70’s not know to peel onions before cutting them, or was this set design executed by a man?

I get stuck in the rain, and my MIL fetches me a pair of her leggings (aka daily uniform) to change into. She’s at least 60 lbs heavier than me, and as she hands them to me she says, “they’re probably too tight, but it’s worth a shot.”

I actually think mandatory glove laws lead to more cross contamination. I can’t count the times I’ve been to a Dunkin Donuts (or whatever) and seen an employee put on gloves, cut a bagel, come take money, pick up something off the floor, return to bagel, put it in bag, grab a rag and wipe down the counter, then return

When my OB/GYN had a speculum inside of me and asked, “So how are you doing?”

Hope I’m wrong, but the first thing I thought of was that this couple hasn’t had a child because the husband is sterile...and the wife started an affair last year.

To all the defenders of the cheerleading squad’s need for uniformity... It doesn’t get much more uniform than the Rockettes, and they manage to accommodate women with different types of hair...The image on their homepage shows 5 women all identically attired with up-do’s, and the person of color’s hair looks to be a

I know they’re just properly annunciating, but all I hear when these Brits call him “FiF-Ty” is mockery.

Uh... Last I checked “snowflakes” are just generally a feature of winter, and actually less christmassy (and therefore more inclusive) than cups that are all universally the colors of christmas.

Read your reply as “Snuffleupagus,” which somehow made it even better.

Serious question: Is “cripple” an inherently offensive term that should never be used, or is it just a usually offensive term that is a poor choice?

Did a little digging. It seems that the standards for determining Highly Qualified Teachers (HQT) dates back to the No Child Left Behind act, and problems like this stem from it’s vague wording.

As a Title I school, Oliver Elementary receives federal dollars because many of its students are from low-income families; so it requires that all teachers be “highly qualified,”

Fixed that for you.
