Ender Lilies is well worth a play.

Ah, the Poochie ending. I bet the folks at Disney wish they’d gone with it.

Also, I’m pretty sure Jurassic World is in a separate continuity, since they STILL HAVEN’T EXPLAINED WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED TO SITE B! (Am I giving off the impression that I hate Jurassic World? Because I fucking hate Jurassic World)

I could definitely see your point regarding Jurassic World. In fact, it might even be ground zero for this particular brand of reflecting-on-the-franchise-as-a-whole “Re-quel.” Is there an earlier one that blended meta-commentary with plot-driven nostalgia the way it did?

Somehow, though it came out back in... October? I feel like No Time To Die should be part of this conversation, too.

Great list, but I totally disagree with the order. Death’s Door should have been way higher up.

...maybe there is space for our big blockbuster films to have something to say about their own wider legacies.

Godzilla V Kong was fantastic, best big budget kaiju action ever put on film, and yes, that includes Pacific Rim which is a very close second for me.

The pandemic has completely changed the way that I read year-end best lists. Instead of deciding whether I agree with the choices, or whether I should catch up with the picks I missed, I mostly sit here, utterly confounded, because I have no idea what came out this year.

Is it a movie about the glorification of violent white men in the good old days? Nope? Then it’s trash!

I’ve seen about 70 new films this year and have no issue putting No Way Home in a Best Picture nomination field (it’s not beating “Belfast” for me, but it’s in the neighborhood). As superhero fare continues to dominate the marketplace and the level of effort and execution remains high on a special few, I hope those

Though we didn’t review it, we did see how it compares to del Toro’s earlier work and found it to be in the upper tier of what’s a really good track record overall.

I’m that guy. The guy who doesn’t adore Blade II. I wrote about it in depth a few years ago but the simple fact is that while it’s a very action heavy sequel, there’s nothing overtly interesting or endearing about it.

Pacific Rim is better than Blade II? BAHahaha!

I had a hard time taking the ending on its own terms. In its favor, the ending echoes the “fresh start” dialogue from the opening scenes, and it pays off the inevitable Spider-Theme of “great responsibility.” And, for what it’s worth, it reminded me (in a good way) of the romance arc in the underrated Superman 2.

Venom’s cameo felt like another oddball byproduct of the deal between Marvel and Sony. They are willing to tease a connection between the two characters, but that little splotch of alien goo is all the MCU is going to get before the deal is inked.

Gonna miss your byline here. But, yeah, the comments were often a litmus on which commenters I would never take seriously again. Good grief.

at this point, it’s my grandkids going to see this movie, not me

For real, I want those fucking discs nooooooooow.
