What about that pickup that caught fire at the drive thru with the propane tank? Was it extinguished quickly? No. I agree that electric fires are a bit more scary, but the issues presented in the media is more akin to fearmongering than anything. The older Model S seem to be the ones prone to fires, while I haven’t

5th Gear: If we are going to blame distracted driving due to cell phones, we should also acknowledge distracted walking due to cell phones.

You mean the toggle switch on their website that you can switch between “Purchase Price” and “Include Potential Savings?”

supposed gas savings bullshit

1,000 lumens.

‘Vette guys tend to be the slightly wealthier and more jingoistic versions of the Miata guys who drop hundreds of dollars on trim rings for their trim rings, so I’m not that suprised...

Yeah, Le Mans was super boring when Audi, Porsche, Peugeot, Nissan, and Toyota ran hybrids...

Reflexes probably don’t need to be as good when you can hear the rally car coming before you can see it.

*To be fair*
I can imagine that people felt exactly the same way about driving a contraption that holds gallons and gallons of explosive fuel at first as well.

And sky high housing costs.

Or 84 month auto loans.

I’m sure declining sales have nothing to do with the $37,000 average car price.

It’s a simple habit to get in to. I’ve had EVs for six years now, never forgot to plug it in.

Yes but this is counterbalanced by the fact that you leave your house every morning with a full “tank”.

Exactly.

Except for, you know, attempting to not completely destroy the environment for future generations. But fuck em, we’ll be dead, amirite?

Exactly this. I want to convert a 63 Falcon Ranchero to electric (using one of these perhaps:https://hsrmotors.com/products/driveunits/small/rear), but between the price and the fact that I don’t have a garage at the moment, I think it’s gonna be a while...

The classic car conversions are pretty neat too. I’m not proud of the noises my Opel GT makes so I don’t mind converting it to electric. I really only drive it 500 miles a year nowadays anyways. It’s more just a friend from high school. Give me 100hp and 75 miles of range and I’m happy.

Seeing the ease with which the rears can be smoked, makes me think the future in “practical” conversions likely lives in AWD drivetrains.

I don’t think safety standards explains it. If a Honda Fit can pass safety standards, so can a truck smaller than a Sherman tank.
