NoScript. Blocks ads and any hidden scripting on the page that would make you have to nuke your computer. Then you can choose what to allow and what to whitelist. I tested it in a sandbox setup and nothing got through, even on known hijack sites.

I've switched from Adblock Plus to Adblock Edge. Recently Plus has been letting a lot of (admittedly unobtrusive) ads, so I switched to Edge, which doesn't whitelist advertisers who pay them.

Def joke, because adblock doesn't stop articles. I know from experience. This one... and all those sponsored ones.

one word: Adblock. I went over a year without even knowing Facebook had any ads. that said these are pretty damn pathetic.

I'm a female gamer, so I just get ads for wedding photo albums (even though I am already married for years. Wut.)

I remember playing the first game with my wife and the splitscreen wasn't too bad and it was still 1000 times better than playing by myself.

I'm surprised Borderlands wasn't originally mentioned. In my opinion, its the only way to play this game. I hated playing this game by myself because there were so many long stretches where you wouldn't run into any one. Getting into a game with 3 other friends was great. We never beat some of the tougher ultra bosses

Oh man, so awesome. The only way this could be better is if they released a physical copy with all the extra bits, the map, the black sunglasses, and the certificate to demolish the earth. God I love old infocom games that used that.
