Horrible. I can't believe our military treats veterans like this.

Ugh, that is awful. I hope he's doing ok.

The military has also done this to soldiers with PTSD in order to deny them health care and benefits: [www.msnbc.msn.com]

I'm just saying I don't have cable (and can't get cable), so I probably won't watch it. I don't watch GoT, either, though to be honest not because I have a big problem with downloading shows.

I'd love to support Girls, but if HBO treats it anything like Game of Thrones, I don't know that I'll be able to.

Get drunk together.*

That's really shitty! Can you get the satisfaction of writing them a really awful yelp review?

Eh, I've made those points plenty of times elsewhere and pretty much gotten the same response.

I don't know, it just popped up on my tumblr recently. I think it might not be official TFH, though it's still my favorite!

I think it's because she has Dog on her side.

Dude, I'm not saying meat is murder. I'm just saying that most people either don't think about or don't care that the meat they eat is produced under cruel (not to mention environmentally destructive) conditions. I don't think it's "sanctimonious garbage" to point that out, and it makes me sad that the (awful,

I wish wikileaks could separate themselves from Assange. I have a hard time believing someone who called Sweden "the Saudi Arabia of feminism" could have an intelligent perspective on marginalized people.

I think doublylink did just want to stir things up, but I also think she's got a point that most people want to ignore.

It's confusing to me because most people are completely fine with things like this happening:

What I think matters is how an animal is treated over its whole life, including how it is killed. Focusing solely on the method of slaughter doesn't make much sense to me.

I didn't think of that! What a nicely subtle burn in return for Peggy's racism. This makes me optimistic for the direction they're going to take Dawn's character.

Oh man, I need to figure out how to nominate this for COTD.

You know, I mostly agree with your position, but when you're insulting and rude to people, they're just going to black out whatever you say and become more firmly convinced of their own rightness.

I think the original commenter made an overgeneralization, sure, but one I also think still tends to apply to the majority of people who eat meat. Humanely-raised meat makes up a tiny fraction of the meat produced and consumed in the US, indicating that most buyers either don't know or don't care about the cruelty

I don't think any one here is saying that anyone who eats meat can never be able to make a moral judgement on the ethical treatment of animals, just that most don't. I'm glad you do, but truth remains that the majority of meat consumed in this country is produced under pretty awful conditions.
