I’m happy to have my mind changed if you have good scientific evidence to the contrary. I do agree that humans are the primary threat to the environment, but that includes our rather reckless introductions of invasive species like domestic cats into ecosystems.

There is a huge body of peer-reviewed literature showing that feral cats are responsible for a large number of bird, mammal, and reptile extinctions, as well as a host of other ecological problems. I like cats but the scientific consensus is pretty strong on this, even if that one study was flawed.

Feral cats account for at least 14% global bird, mammal, and reptile extinctions and are the principal threat to almost 8% of critically endangered birds, mammals, and reptiles (source). You can advocate for feral cats if you want, but the evidence shows that they truly do have a significant negative effect on

I just think it’s weird that people have such selective empathy for animals. Letting your cat go free means you’re allowing it to kill a pretty enormous number of other animals, and I think those deaths are the owner’s responsibility. I don’t really see a huge moral difference between killing an animal directly and

No, they are domestic animals. Humans need to be responsible for both their welfare and their impacts on the rest of the world.

I mean, I agree that people who disgregard animal lives are sick fucks. But if you let your cat roam free, you’re a) putting it in danger of being hit by a car, eaten by a coyote, or any number of other unpleasant things; and b) letting it kill dozens of other animals itself. The vet was fucked up, but everyone who

Feral cats are mostly harmless to humans, but they’re hugely destructive to wildlife.

Well, to be fair she does refer to them as "mythological".

I think they attribute that difference to socioeconomic status, not the procedure itself. Poorer women more often opt for mastectomies, and have more limited access to health care, resulting in lower survival rates.

Pretty much. It's clear that the average consumer doesn't care about the wastefulness and shitty ethics of fast fashion, because disposable consumerism is so deeply ingrained in us.

At 5'11'', short dudes won't give me a second glance, except to neg me for being too tall. Dammit!

I read it as a kid, found it simplistic and unmemorable. Read it as an adult, found it simplistic and unmemorable (and also like it was a really ham-fisted metaphor for the evils of communism).

Seriously, does anyone actually think Dove give a shit about your self-esteem? They've found a clever way to market their products, and 100% of their motivation is money.

A lot of the stuff we eat is SUPER gross, we just don't see the gross part. Cows are fed the (literal) shit that gets scraped off the floor of poultry barns. Most of the shrimp we eat are basically grown in pools of filth. All of our (industrial) meat is breeding antibiotic-resistant bacteria.

I will eat the hell

No worries, I actually love reading studies and am super interested in topics like this. Studying "innate" traits in humans is so difficult because culture has such a huge influence on our thoughts and behavior, and it's pretty fascinating to read about.

Hey, no need to get snippy! I think you'd ask the same of anyone who claimed "men biologically better at math" or whatever.
