Not at all. “Father” was blacked out on my daughter’s certificate, and the words “Second Parent” were typed into the space next to my name. Just like the words “Bride” and “Groom” were crossed out on our marriage license and replaced with “Party 1” and “Party 2”.

While I totally think that the state should have accomodate these couples and others like them, I also don’t think just scratching things out and writing in something else on a birth certificate is exactly legally viable.
