Doug Barry is constantly using/inventing turns of phrase that just sound like nonsense to me, to the extent that sometimes (mostly in Dirt Bag when each item is only a sentence long) completely obscure the meaning. Once again, a nifty story gets stuffed into Doug's Play-Doh Writing Funnel... and comes out the other end as a ragged mess of misplaced snark, busted metaphors and sentences like crippled snakes.

Once again Doug makes it nearly impossible to understand what the actual article is about. Algae? Teenagers? Pollution? CBS? Pie?

Seriously! There's no reason to put down humanities to prop up a woman studying science. She's doing great things on her own. Her accomplishments should have stood out in this article, but what stood out is that Doug Barry is pretty much an asshole.

Science will make the future possible. Humanities will make it worthwhile.
Can we please all just get along?
