While the valuation seems insane, Tesla is, in fact, the only U.S. manufacturer that stands a chance against the onslaught of cheap Chinese EV’s. In fact, the Chinese EV manufacturers largely copied Tesla’s model of tight, vertical integration. If the future is inevitably EV, then Tesla is one of the very few Western

Are you my wife? We have a running joke that we never want to live in a place that has electrical outlets on poles in store parking lots.  Which means it might end up that we end up moving someplace poor when we retire to avoid this.

The correct headline should be that it loses $40,000 PER vehicle it sells. “On” every vehicle it sells falsely implies there is a marginal loss of $40k for each additional vehicle it sells. In reality, more vehicles sold reduces the per-vehicle loss.

I saw one, and was surprised it looked a little less ugly in person.

The article here was just saying that having a 6' bed was inherently a design flaw, not that it was a design flaw specific to being aftermarket modified to be a dually.

Tesla’s bed is appallingly small with an advertised length of just over 6 feet that quickly diminishes as the bed is filled vertically.

Honestly that’s a pretty good survivability cell. The rest of the truck shattered as would be expected from a cast aluminum structure. But looking at the damage I bet they were doing some serious speed when they hit and spun around multiple times.  The passenger compartment remains intact. This is exactly what you

What was that again about CyberTurds not having crumple zones? Looks like it does and it did the job here.

Any money says Tesla quietly thickens the webbing around the hitch (where you can see it’s paper thin and shatters) but doesn’t tell anyone because they’d have to retrofit the older trucks.

Ok max verCrashen, everyone but you is cheating.

Yeah the connection between hitch and frame seems a bit shit. But also does ANYONE tow, even light loads with a bumper hitch anyway.  I don’t think I have seen a truck with a actual bumper hitch like like 30 years, it’s always a proper trailer hitch that’s bolted to the frame of the truck.

I hope the porch pirate and the truck owner’s insurance sues the fuck out of this guy. This dude caused tens of thousands of dollars in damage over a $20 package that Amazon would comp.

He had the person’s face on his Ring camera. He had their liecense plate. Everything he needs to simply call police and get it taken care of. But instead he has ruined his life to live out a petty childish vigilante dream.

Right? That’s what I was thinking. Imagine if someone was shot and killed over some cheap trinket.

Chrysler, there’s no reason for this brand to exists anymore. They only have the aging Pacifica that could easily be sold as a Dodge, and that fossil they call the 300 that is probably already out of production.

*Puts flame suit on*

I remember, back in the day when VW was teetering in the U.S. (and possibly more broadly), a dealership manager told me that the new Beetle saved them. As kitschy cool as it is, I don’t think that $70K Bus is going to be able to pull the same trick. I’m a fan, but as I’ve said elsewhere, I really wish they made a car

Lexus GX460.

Wait, I have a question.

Yep, nail on the head. When you buy a car, you pay for a product. It is a depreciating asset, but the depreciation is only realized when the vehicle is sold. The best way to shield one’s self from depreciation is to amortize it over the largest number of miles pragmatic for the vehicles use case.
