The Grammys are like if the Oscars only nominated summer blockbusters in every category.

I love/hate that they’re calling these trash bags “Everybody Wins” while distributing them to only 25 “top” nominees.

He did play music in public again though, which I don’t think anyone expected either.

Y’know, the country of Iceland has laws concerning the names you can and cannot name your children, and while some people consider them to be a human rights violation, it’s shit like this that makes me think they’re necessary. Like, why even do this? Because it sounds cute? Because it’s funny? Because it’s

I kind of got the impression that this film was initially conceived as a Joker-style one-off film that would end with Bruce deciding Batman was a bad idea after learning the Riddler thought they were allies, but then WB decided there should be sequels and forced them to change the ending.

It must be soul-crushing to be in PR or “director of product innovation” or whatever for some big company. Like you’re just saying dumb stuff, and everyone knows it’s dumb, and yet the whole ruse continues like we’re all schmucks. You just go home and die a little more.

Maybe being a teenager when Nevermind came out biases me, but IMO nothing on that record could be considered a “deep cut”. It’s liek describing anything on “Dark Side of the Moon” as a deep cut... some records were just so universally beloved and played to death that every track is a stone cold classic.

I liked the choice of song. I was relieved that it wasn’t “Smells Like Teen Spirit” (a song I like, but hear too often), especially not the cover used in Black Widow. I’m not a big fan of slow, breathy cover songs.

With the Inhumans series being the MCU/Marvel Television low point, I'm not blaming Marvel Studios post-Ike rinsing their hands of all things Inhumans at the very least

as not-Muslim-but-still-brown guy who grew up in the 80's/90's, i was joking-but-not-really-joking the other day that it will be nice to have the Russians as the bad guys again.

The bigger problem is that because reviewers have a habit of doing this, they give the impression that films (TV shows, etc) can be divided into two kinds: those that have emotions and excitement and solid plots and themes and dialogue and pacing and relations to other films and character development and so on, and

Ok, so there are giant pandas and there are red pandas, but giant pandas are not red and red pandas are not giant, so why does she turn into a giant red panda?

Seriously the most fucked up thing my 4 year old saw in a movie theater up to that point. I get what Bao was going for but that shit ain’t right. Also its kinda hard as someone in a mixed marriage not read the mothers upset reactions being partially because her son is dating a non-asian girl.    Its like “Oh she is

Hey folks. I just wanted to drop in and say thank you to everyone here for all the kind words, and also for reading what I’ve written at The A.V. Club these past nine years. I know I wasn’t always the most consistent presence in the comments, even before the Kinja transition, but I dipped in fairly regularly, and for

at least in the days before Kinja decimated the site’s robust commenting culture

I think it’s clear that the writers of the show think it’s courageous when people leave their marriages to pursue things they think of as more exciting, and the audience does not seem to match that attitude.  Both Samantha and Stanford leave relationships to which viewers were emotionally invested, in ways that seem

Preview felt more more like a video created by the Middle Earth Tourist Board to get people to go visit than an actual promo for a show

It has way to much of a cosplay with FX feel to it.

Well, it was there. It was a nice tease to let everyone know that it exists. I look forward to it, but hope the next trailer will add some context as into what kind of story to expect. Otherwise, my feeling is, “I’ll check it out” instead of, “I can’t wait to see this.”

The immunocompromised are always going to be at a disadvantage unfortunately. I did everything I could to make sure I didn’t spread Covid (although as far as I know, I never got it - never tested positive for it) but this is something we’re going to have to learn how to live with. I truly feel bad for those who are
