I spent a lot of time in tiny southern Alabama towns with family during summers as a kid and the thing that always stuck with me was I could never tell who the racists were because everyone was polite, my aunts and cousins would have to fill me in.

When I called out the school secretary for being blatantly racist in 2nd grade I learned that literally the worst thing you can call a white American is racist and it seems to have only gotten worse as its gradually become okay to be openly racist again.
