I think there’s a balance point between plot spoilers and talking about a movie being made as an artistic item.

Here’s the question: Aside from the fact that marketing told us, was The Last Jedi a Star Wars movie? IMHO, it was too much of a deviation. (Especially for a part 8 of 9 of supposedly a cohesive overall story - ep 9 will decide how that turns out.)

the aspect of that I’m questioning is whether there can be an escalation without going all the way up to using lethal force.

We’ll never know if the cops could have resolved this differently if they hadn’t returned fire.

well then don’t fixate on the word “laws” and let’s instead say “all for a change in culture that reduces shootings”. Still something you’d think cops would want, right? Fewer people shooting at them. Fewer homicides to investigate.  (even with more police on the job that’d still be something you’d think they’d want.)
