Agreed. Just thought I’d stick to the environmental side of things for my post, otherwise my rant would’ve been entirely too long to read.

All of what you said is true, but that is only the half of it. Our dependence on oil has and will continue to be the primary source of political and economic instability throughout the world. Oil producing countries use it as a weapon, without conscience or thought for the long term effects of such policies.

There are a lot of challenges to going from a gas powered to electric car. Not everyone has a garage in which to park their car and have a charging station. Many renters don’t even have designated parking in a lot. If you don’t live in a complex, it may just be wherever you can find parking on the street. There’s also

“Some predict that cheap gas could stick around forever.”

Simple. As demand increases, production increases. Manufacturers of components devise ways to build those items cheaper to A) initially increase their margin (to cover initial R&D costs) and B) lower unit prices to undercut competitors (to increase market share as they trim margin down to previous levels). That cycle

The ICE will never be fully replaced, but it’s very easy to see one car in a two car family (used for commuting) being electric. Or, if you want to take a road trip, you rent a gas car.

Eventually most urban people will realize they don’t travel very far, pretty much every city car could be 100% EV. The biggest drawbacks are retrofitting charging in garages and the effect of high/low temperature on battery packs.

I see MB management has been talking to Tavarish.

I'm all for this. I'm a self-admitted racist against robots. Save the humans!

There is also exactly one for sale on Autotrader right now for...wait for it...less than the price of a new Odyssey.

kiiiillllll meeeeeee

You’re so stupid you don’t even know how stupid you are. As someone else pointed out you really do think computers are this fantastical paradise machine they never fails and never has any problems. Even the embedded computers are not free from failure.

RAM Powerwagon oh wait

Toyota Funcamry Dentbeige.

That bar is really not low. People drive generally all right. 5 million car crashes per year weighted against 350 million people. There are 1.3 people to every car in the country, which means we are already at around 1-2% margin for error. This means that generally speaking, people drive pretty ace — I highly doubt

Not really — we see mechanical errors all of the time with already existent manual overrides that ADD to safety, not detract from it.

Programming aside, circuit boards and components fail. Wires short and have corroded contacts.

As for not trusting driverless cars ... knowing that it’s a computer doing the job and being a programmer ... yeah I have trust issues.
