I remember in the 90's they came to Portland took over a beautiful old downtown building.

The Church of Scientology has been the largest landowner in Hollywood for a while now. In order to maintain its not for profit status it has to consistently reinvest a minimum amount of the money that comes in, and they’ve done that buying local real estate. At this point it’s a perpetual motion money machine.
