A few thoughts on this fine July 4th

At the end of the year, when we get a 10-part series of the Top 200 G/O Media Slideshows, will this 5-part series count as one single entry, or will each part get its own spot on the list?

Exactly. What they’re really saying is, “If I’m not allowed to kill or ostracize you for being a filthy degenerate pervert, then you’re not allowed to mildly push back against my religion.”

Yeah, they’re at least somewhat aware that if every “opinion” and view is tolerated, that hatred and the desire to kill the “other” will always win, because eventually they’ll just consume everything.

I’m sure you’re as aware of this as I am, but for anybody else who might not be aware: the folks saying that their shitty views deserve to be respected don’t actually care about tolerance. They’re just using the language of tolerance to try and defend being bigots.

Tell that to the “Christians” in the US that are obsessed with the idea that we’re trying to wipe straight (and white) people out (it’s always the same people stuck on “white replacement”). It’s the same kind of nonsense.

If we’re going to balk every time we have the opportunity to make any changes because we might lose political control, what do we need political control for? We obviously aren’t doing anything with it. 

Stupid, terrible, or single-issue voters. The kind of rubes that buy gold because the shout-man what makes that Blaze website said they should, otherwise [fill in Democrat here] will steal their guns and/or big loud trucks.

How did this guy get elected to a national office? This still confuses me.

Unfortunately true. I feel like during the switch to Kinja when everyone was saying how this would kill the community, someone on the tech side explicitly told us “you guys represent like, 2% of the site’s traffic.”

Muscle memory is a good way to put it.  Which makes it even more depressing when you pop it open and it’s still the same stories from the previous afternoon.

What’s happened to the AV Club is so sad, and I really hope you and all the other talented writers leaving find your feet and keep writing great articles like this elsewhere. I appreciated the lack of A’s because, as you said, if a film got an AA Dowd ‘A’ (or even a B+), I knew it was worth looking out for.

Well, I definitely wasn’t expecting this to make me tear up, yet here we are.
