No, you can’t build a PC for $250 and get away with the same performance, you’re right.

There are ways to get Windows licenses for much less than $140, at worst I’ve seen them retail for $89.99, most colleges will have them in their local software shop for like $20, and even then, there’s always a very handy subreddit to get them for about that price too...
What are you talking about? The subsidized price of the hardware, because Microsoft and Sony don’t make money off the actual console sales? Sure, they cost like $250 or so now on sales, but to be fair, they were barely $300 computers being sold for $399-$499 when they launched.
Glad to hear!
PC is easy to use. You don’t have to “set up controllers,” you plug it in. Windows 7, 8, and 10 all come natively with Xbox drivers. If you prefer PS4, that takes some work, but nothing that someone with the ability to type “www.google.com” couldn’t figure out.
That makes more sense. Typically, that doesn’t happen. It would take a hardware vendor (Nvidia, Intel, AMD, or Microsoft) for something like that to happen, because there is no single “one” who would profit off such an arrangement. It’s already bad enough we get PC games with Nvidia or AMD-specific baked in graphics…
Most recent games don’t have issues with the computer being put to sleep or being alt tabbed out of. Unless it’s a Bethesda game, because it’s running on a 12 year old game engine to begin with. So I should amend that with, recent games with modern engines ;P Also, we can do Borderless Windowed on most games on PC…
would do what? Keep a game on PC? There’s a number of reasons. If the control scheme is a better fit for KB+M, if the consoles have too much of a hardware limitation (hence why Star Citizen isn’t coming to consoles) or because the dev team is too small and trying to optimize for multiple platforms would fragment them.
I always prefer peaceful discussions! I try to avoid namecalling, or playing too much favorite, because I know other people’s interests don’t necessarily match mine. Contrary to popular belief (and what the name “PC Master Race” might imbue), most of us PC gamers have no problem with people who are “happy” with their…
Perfectly fair assessment. I don’t fault anyone who knows exactly what they want out of their console and it fits that niche for them.
Also, yeah, seriously, and even when we do get JRPGs, we get saddled with weird stuff like framerate or resolution locks more often than not. I keep my PS4 handy just for those and…
You as well!
I have the same bad habit, so I understand. Good to see so many “good natured” debates going on in this comment thread. It didn’t devolve too much into “omgawd PC is the worst” as badly as I thought it might, save for a few ignorant comments.
But conversely, aside from play exclusives, anything you can do on a console you can do on a PC for less money. Games are regularly cheaper and you don’t pay twice to get online (to your ISP and to Sony/MS)
I can understand that, I didn’t mean to come off that way. To be fair, I should disclose I also own both consoles. My only point in owning them is because I wanted to play Halo 3-5, and Sunset Overdrive on X1, and I want Uncharted and Last of Us and the other exclusives that come with Sony.
I guess my only suggestion to you as a compromise would be, leave the PC in the office for your random web browsing, but maybe invest in a Steam Link or something so you can play in your living room on it.
Cosmetic exclusive DLC wouldn’t bother me. But the fact that whole missions and gear (which, are not cosmetic - they have stats and everything) are locked to one side is beyond absurd.
Right. If you don’t use your PC for gaming at all, I can see that.
But not too big of a budget... *cough StarCitizen cough*
Everyone has different needs and requirements from their hardware, I will concede to that.
Okay but your argument here has a few flaws. For one, Tomb Raider hasn’t sold for shit, it’s done remarkably well, and it’s doing even better now that the PC release is officially out.
