I get ~10-15 seconds of complete ‘hands-off’ semi-autonomous Level 2 driving in my 2019 Hyundai before it shouts and complains and I have to put my hands back on the wheel.

I wished these systems were designed not to share the driving task for long periods of time, but to take it over completely for very short periods when the system has high confidence it is interpreting its environment properly, like in the I-90 scenario I described above.

All 4 businesses are over 10 years old. That alone qualifies as ‘sustained success’ in the modern world of dotcom-dotbomb unicorns. Especially considering the capital-intensive industries he and his teams are transforming.

Elon has launched and sustained a car company, solar company, gigafactory battery company and a fucking rocket science company.ALL AT THE SAME TIME!

The Trump administration doesn’t see the point of having committees that provide facts because it will be overruled by Trump’s gut and whatever the idiots on Fox & Friends are saying that day.

Jalopnik: “Autonomous cars are dangerous and have no business being on public roads.”

1) To some extent, but remember there is a difference between peak efficiency and typical efficiency. The thing about powerplants is they operate almost always near peak efficiency. In comparison, the same can’t be said about an ICE engine. Now obviously a battery would help improve efficiency of the engine, but that

1) Sure, but ICE would never be able to reach the efficiency of an BEV.

1) Sure, but we are talking about 20 years into the future, not 5 years. Hybrids might be a thing in the short term, but long term as EVs continue to improve that will shift.

I’m sorry, but that is a myth.

It’s only the cityslickers on the coasts who remain averse to taking road trips.

Who do you think buys more cars, people like you or people like him?

I ordered a Tesla today. Model 3 Performance. I’ll be trading in a Chevy SS Sedan with a manual. I love my Chevy but my commute is long and I feel bad for wasting her talents on a commute and paying 400 a month in gas to do it. The Tesla ends up cheaper overall and faster to boot. I’ll miss the manual the most and the

I mean, even as someone who has not owned an auto since my first hand-me-down car in high school and who will never buy a non-manual car until I’m forced to, he’s right. As charging speeds and battery capacity improve, there will be no reason to buy an ICE car over an electric car for your average new car buyer.

“Dad you can drop us off here. No need to pull up right in front of school.”

Let’s be clear, I expect that to happen no matter what I do.

And they will laugh at their out of touch old man

I have two gas vehicles, a diesel, and an electric car, and as much as I enjoy them all, the electric car is my go-to daily driver, it’s just too easy to drive. I love my ICE vehicles for the character each has, and the engagement and involvement each requires, and at the end of the day I could not operate with an EV

Earlier this year I bought a lightly used Leaf for commuting duties. After driving it for a week, I was a total convert. I don’t intend to buy another ICE ever again. There’s something about the smoothness, quiet, and delivery of power that’s so nice for commuting. I expect that most people won’t get that until they

“I predict a child born today probably has as much chance of driving in a gas car as people today have driving a car with a stick shift. They’ll still be around, there’s just not many of them,” he said.
