True, they haven’t produced a single vehicle for sale yet, but personally there are a number of reasons I’m excited for them.

I mean, c’mon. A gas engine vehicle absolutely cares about the cold too, and loses 10-15% efficiency (and thus also range). A BEV may lose more % of its range when driving in the cold (due to energy req’d for heating, defrosting, and keeping the battery warm), but show me the proof that cold storage degrades range any

Not to mention headaches like blown head gaskets or hunting down emission related gremlins just to you can pass inspection. All that ICE bullshit really adds up over the life of a car.

I completely agree. ICE cars are basically toast, and if anyone thinks they’ll be able to buy an ICE car for decades into the future, they are seriously mistaken or willfully blind.

people probably don’t want to be associated with the stigma that comes with hybrids and EVs, that smugness that’s been parodied on South Park

You can always rent. You don’t own cabins/condos/hotel rooms either but you just rent them where you need them. Cars can work the same.

The Tesla batteries have retained more than 90% capacity, the only EV’s that have problems don’t use thermal controls on the batteries (1st gen Leafs were notoriously bad).

You can lease a Chevy Bolt for under $300 per month for 36 months including down payment and taxes.  That is pretty cheap.

Cars spend most of their time parked, a charging unit in parking lots is all it takes (they’re already popping up at retail stores and municipal buildings but it won’t be long until apartment complexes and office parking lots have them too, just takes the demand).

HE isn’t smug at all - you seem defensive. and sometimes people are objectively wrong. but putting that aside, money is where it matters. if you can afford a gas chugging F150 or other SUV, go w/ god, but I think the option to use EVs is going to increasingly seem like a bargain.

Yeah, after telling my neighbor that some Teslas have about 300 miles range said that wasn’t good enough since he could run out at some point during the week. I’m like, you do know that you can recharge it every night in your garage and have that entire 300 mile range available to you every morning, right?

The average consumer has no idea what’s under their hood or who made it. They want it to work, be cheap to run, and be powerful and they don’t care how that’s done. The biggest compliment engines usually get are about them being smooth and quiet which are hallmarks of electric motors.

He’s the hardest working American, and he gets things done that have to be done like no one else, despite all hurdles.  Tesla has no hidden agenda to deceive people, a normal component of most business plans.  That alone is unique.  I think most of the hatred towards Tesla is planted there by Bloomberg, the short

I feel the same way. The car enthusiast community is one of the more toxic ones on the internet. Almost completely male dominated and egotistical, with a good dose of Peter Pan syndrome, selfishness, and glasses that are so rose-tinted they might as well have thorns.

When you buy a Tesla, someone sends you a check? Millionaires buy Teslas?

People who bitch about Tesla don’t actually own Teslas. Meanwhile, every single person I’ve known who has owned one loves them. That tells you a lot.

Do you say that on every negative Ford or GM article? Or is Tesla the only one that gets unfair criticism?

I’m impressed by how rapidly this response devolved into libertarian craziness.

Was it really awful? I am not a millionaire, not even close, and I bought a model 3 simply because I work my fucking ass off and paid off my 2015 WRX within 4 years which allowed me to have a very substantial down payment for my 3. I also would not have bought the 3 if it was not for the $7500 credit. Suck on that. Sor

I dont hate them. If I had the money I would own a model S or X. The 3 doesnt interest me much for size reasons. But I still get excited to see them on the road.
