I don't think he demonized them. He aired some constructive criticism in a respectful manner. I don't think it's the teacher's job to be flattered.
That teaching is hard and an unthankful job isn't because of speeches like his.

It's not right, but I guess most are still sore about how certain teachers were shitty und unfair to them this time or another. Pretty much everyone dealt with teachers a lot. You know, takes some time and reflection to reassess what they did.

Guess they didn't expect the video to land on the internets!

This might be the kind of school where these looks alone take you already halfway to the position of class president.
He fits a mold, certainly.

Yup!

I don't get why the valedictory speech should only be there to flatter the teachers and the institution. His speech may have been naive and even arrogant, but cutting his mic kinda proves his point, too, that the administration is too authoritative. Especially since his speech was stated in a respectful manner.

But…that's the one issue where she fails, right? So, if she wouldn't do that, she would be progressive enough, right?

Yeah, because that's a fair characterization!

In which way would you prefer her to be more progressive?

I edited my reply. I had this to add:

I think what's great about her show is that she has in-depth pieces about issues I wasn't aware of before or shows new wrinkles on familiar issues.
So I don't find them to be obvious.

What she says isn't invalidated by actions of hers that might not be perfect.
Sure, you can call her out on it.
Also, having read up on the issue (here: http://www.wnyc.org/story/a… ) I would say it isn't as clear cut anyway. Well, it's not even mentioned there which side he is on! Maybe you know more than I do? Care

Voters for Trump are responsible for Trump.
Or it's the collective fault of US American society.
Or maybe blame shifting won't help.

I don't think John Oliver's segment can be reduced to him saying "I don't like Donald Trump" over and over again. I feel, I don't know, that he has me more of substance to say. You know.

Because it should remain a niche thing?

What a snowflake! He's melting right before our eyes!

It's sold and marketed in the US of A. So there.

Holy shit, people are different than you and are bothered by different things!

It's funny, because people actually believe that!

It's a loan word from German.
