PR VP at Bethesda responds:
I think certain early, structural decisions painted them into a corner. The wastelands consumed a huge amount of physical resources and i think the indoor and town areas suffered a bit for it. Now that the systems are built, the game designers could do a lot more with the existing assets.
RAGE's biggest fault is that it's a new IP, with new technology. The game has some issues, but it's taken some risks and deserves credit for that. Doing a Smuggler's Run/Twisted Metal style competitive MP was a pretty ballsy move, and it actually turned out to be a ton of fun. Hopefully, this news might mean id gets a…
Seems like you should try to get the straight dope on this, that headline is going to cause some ruckus.
The term isn't calling them better, it's pointing out the fact that they think they're better. PC gamers look down on the console masses due to fear of their own diminishing relevance, kinda like racists.
There's a bit of hand drawing in the 8-Bit version, especially the crosses on the tie. Looks like he traced it in MS-Paint, instead of shrinking and palletizing.
Ninja Gaiden is my favorite game soundtrack of all time. Hideously difficult game, so much childhood rage at the hands of people resetting my NES while I was at school. I still try to play through it every few years, but in my old age I've become weak and use save states.
That's arguably the case post Quake3 (which is still played in droves), on the other hand, Doom3 is the only game they've made in that time. Wolf, Doom, and Quake are extremely fun games.
The cover featured in the article is not by Glenn Fabry, but by id Software art director, Stephan Martiniere. Glenn did the other one. [bethblog.com]
360 and PS3 games spend a lot of time arguing over which looks better, PS3 gamers in particular like to talk about how much legs the cell architecture has. To say console gamers don't care about graphics is silly.
Andrew WK disagrees, looks like John Romero.
On one hand I do feel sorry for the guy- his career took a huge hit, all because he spoke candidly about something that's an open secret in game journalism/marketing. On the other hand, it's precisely these marketing types that are destroying the openness and candor that I used to enjoy hearing directly from…
id SuperPack on steam, witcher2, starcraft2
There are definitely people with irrational ties to their spawn point.
On existing hardware- Cryengine3, idTech5 etc all more impressive. As tech demos go, this was pretty weak. The color grading and lighting was OK, but there's not that much going on that you can point at as cutting edge cg.
If Microsoft did that I would put aside all past feelings and embrace them with all my heart.
Bionic Commando: Rearmed was awesome- the AAA 3d version was less well received.
Most definitely not. I've worked with him, and he's a super nice guy. Also, he actually programs and is very hands on with his work, unlike a lot of artists at that level. It's good that there's a genuine hacker with a voice in the art world, addressing video games as a part of our generation's culture.
I think the important thing would be to create incentives for productive, good behavior, and not punish people. The Portal ARG seems like an exercise in this kind of thinking- pay extra for the bundle, give indie games a chance by actually playing through them- the people that went the extra distance got it all for…
